Ceramic painting setup at Nebu Studio

Pick up the pallet and apron

Take a palette from the table and go to the paint wall. Try to avoid oily products like hand creams, as they can significantly affect the paint's adhesion.

Glaze color bottles on the Nebu color wall

Pay attention to the color samples

The small samples under each bottle show you the fired color with 1, 2, or 3 layers. This is your guide to the final result after firing.

Unpainted areas

Any areas you leave blank will emerge from the firing process with a glossy, creamy white finish. So be sure to plan your design with these areas in mind.

Mixing paint colors on a ceramic piece at Nebu

Mixing colors

You can mix colors however you like. Since the color changes during firing, the result may turn out slightly different than expected.

Primer

Some pieces need to be primed first. You can tell which ones they are by the label on the shelf.

Apply layers

Apply the paint in 1–3 thin coats. Let each coat dry before applying the next one. Three even coats provide the best coverage and depth of color.

Sketch it out first

Use the pencils on the table to sketch out your design. The lines will burn off in the kiln, so you won't see them on the finished piece.
